WHAT IS VIRTUAL YOUTUBER AND WHY IT’S SUDDENLY BECAME POPULAR ON 2020

Abstract

2020 could arguably be the worst year that maybe We, students that just barely graduate from High School. Many tragedy is happening on this year, such as Wildfire on Australia and of course the biggest problem that world maybe ever had, COVID-19. A lot of thing is happening on 2020, but not always a bad thing that happens, sometimes some entertaining stuff and good thing that also happening.

Key Words: Vtuber. Virtual Youtuber. 2020. Entertainment.

 

I. Introduction

            Youtube is a video sharing service that allows users to watch videos by other users and upload videos of their own, Youtube videos is also could be posted by people from all over the world and also from all types of backgrounds and contents. Virtual Youtuber is one of the contents that are popular on 2020 while a lot of things happening.

            Virtual Youtuber (also called as VTuber) is an online entertainment that using some digital avatar generated by computer graphics, and most of the avatar are like Anime (a hand-drawn and computer animation originating from Japan).

 

II. Research Method

This Journal was created without using any special method, but based on my knowledge with some addition from another website.

 

III. Results and Discussion

            Virtual Youtuber is really blowing up on 2020, but before that we need to go back a little bit to a late 2016, Kizuna AI, Considered as the first Virtual Youtuber who made her debut on Youtube also the first to claim and use the term of Virtual Youtuber, but the “first” Trend is inbetween May and mid-July 2018, the number of Virtual Youtubers is increasing from 2,000 to 4,000.

            After this Virtual Youtubers (VTubers, this is the shortened name of Virtual Youtubers) trend is success in Japan, VTubers spread overseas with some agencies in United States, Indonesia, South Korea, China, and many more.

            By January 2020, there are over 10,000 of VTubers out there. As of August 2020, seven of the largest Super Chat (for the context, super chat is the equivalent of donation on Youtube Platform) earners of all Time on Youtube is held by a lot of VTubers, Kiryu Coco (VTuber) is at number one who had earned approximately ~$810,000. Because of the VTubers thing is really blowing up on 2020 it continued to rise on Twitch (Another Platform like Youtube).

 

IV. Conclusion

            Virtual Youtubers is an Online Entertainment that using digital avatar and generated by Computer Graphics, which is a very good entertainment for an “arguably” bad year, because we are having a lot of Incidents and also Tragedy of course we need a break from IRL Stuff and having some fun. According to BBC they are unique in that they are "not constrained by personal or identity issues," and the popularity of VTubers worldwide is due to their "large customer base outside of Japan who love Japanese culture and anime".
